Verify PAN Status Online 2026: Name, DOB, OTP, Mismatch & Safe Checks
Updated September 2026: The official Income Tax e-Filing portal provides a pre-login Verify PAN Status service for checking a known PAN and matching details. It is a verification service, not a public reverse-search tool for finding someone's PAN from a name or mobile number.
How to verify PAN
- Open the official Income Tax e-Filing portal.
- Select Verify PAN Status from Quick Links.
- Enter the known PAN, full name, DOB/date of incorporation and requested mobile details.
- Complete OTP verification.
- Review the PAN validation/status result.
What it can and cannot do
| Task | Position |
|---|---|
| Validate a known PAN | Yes |
| Check entered name/DOB details | Yes through the verification flow |
| Find PAN from only name/DOB | No ordinary public reverse search |
| Correct PAN master data | No; correction is a separate process |
Business use
Finance teams can use authorised verification during vendor/employee onboarding to reduce PAN-name mismatches in TDS and other compliance records. Restrict access to PAN data and retain it only for legitimate business/compliance purposes.
If verification fails
- Recheck PAN characters.
- Check legal name spelling/order.
- Confirm DOB/date of incorporation.
- Retry only through the official portal if OTP expired.
- If master data is wrong, use the authorised correction process.
Security
- Never share OTPs with callers or agents.
- Avoid websites promising PAN lookup by name/mobile.
- Do not upload PAN copies without a legitimate need.
- For bulk/business verification, use authorised facilities.
